Learn To Skate
Our Learn to Skate program is the perfect place to begin! No previous skating experience is required. Following the nationally recognized Learn to Skate USA curriculum, skaters develop fundamental skating skills in a fun, encouraging environment while preparing for future figure skating or hockey opportunities.

Learn To Play
Designed for new hockey players, this program introduces the essential skills needed to play the game. While completion of Learn to Skate is strongly recommended, players will continue developing their skating while learning passing, shooting, stickhandling, and basic game concepts in a fun, age-appropriate setting.

USA Hockey - American Development Model
Our ADM (American Development Model) program provides young athletes with the ideal foundation for hockey development. Players typically skate one to two times each week over a 24-week season, participating in cross-ice games while focusing on hockey's ABCs—Agility, Balance, and Coordination—in a fun, fast-paced environment.

Lakeland House Hockey
House Hockey is a great option for players looking to continue developing their skills in a fun, team-focused environment. Players skate twice each week during a 24-week season and compete in the LCAHL House League with an 18–24 game schedule and multiple tournaments throughout the season.

Hawks Mite Travel
For players ready to take the next step in competitive hockey, Lakeland Hawks Mite offers AAU full-ice travel hockey with three ice sessions each week. Teams compete in the MAYHL with an 18–24 game schedule, multiple tournaments, and a focus on player development. Tryouts are held each spring.

Hawks Travel
Our Lakeland Hawks Travel program is designed for players seeking a higher level of competition and commitment. Teams from U9 through U14 practice three times each week and compete in the LCAHL with a 30–40 game schedule, multiple tournaments, and a strong emphasis on player development. Tryouts are held each spring.

Build a stronger skating foundation through drills that focus on stride technique, edge control, acceleration, agility, balance, and speed. These clinics are beneficial for players of all positions looking to become more efficient and explosive skaters.

Individual Player Registration
Don’t have a full team but still want to play? We’re now accepting individual player registrations for $320 per player!
Individual players will be placed onto teams in the order their registrations are received, based on available roster spots.
Important: Individual registration does not guarantee placement on a team. Once all available team roster spots are filled, additional individual players may not be able to be placed.
Registration Deadline: September 7th
If you’re interested in playing, we recommend registering as soon as possible to give yourself the best opportunity to be placed on a team.

Don
A lifelong hockey player, Coach Don began playing at age five and went on to compete in junior hockey before beginning a 48-year coaching career. His experience includes coaching players from 6U through 14U, 12 years of high school hockey, and 20 years with Lakeland Arena’s Learn to Play program.

His coaching emphasizes hard work, practice, and steady development. He takes pride in watching players grow in skill and confidence while discovering their own love for the game. His goal is to help every player build a strong foundation and enjoy hockey for years to come.

Paul Schiebold
Coach Paul grew up playing travel hockey out of Lakeland before competing in three years of varsity hockey at Milford High School and one season of Junior B hockey with the Wayne Wheels. He brings five years of coaching experience, including two years as a high school assistant coach and three years as a Tier 2 head coach, and holds USA Hockey Level 3 credentials.
His coaching emphasizes strong fundamentals, accountability, work ethic, and a team-first mindset. Coach Paul is passionate about developing well-rounded athletes while helping players build confidence, leadership, character, and skills that extend beyond the rink.

2013 Assistant Coach
Marc Machnak
Coach Marc brings 12 years of coaching experience, including five years as a high school assistant coach and seven years as a Tier 2 travel head coach. He holds USA Hockey Level 4 credentials and played travel hockey from age six, including three years at Milford High School and two seasons with the Metro Jets in the CSHL.

His coaching centers on accountability, strong habits, and clear expectations. Coach Marc emphasizes the complete 200-foot game, developing responsible defensive play alongside an aggressive, relentless offensive approach.

Ryan Starr
Coach Ryan brings three years of coaching experience with the Hawks, specializing in defense, and holds USA Hockey Level 3 credentials. A lifelong hockey player, he began skating at age six and played varsity hockey at Walled Lake Central, developing his game at Lakeland Arena.

His coaching focuses on building strong work ethic, accountability, and respect both on and off the ice. Coach Ryan works closely with each player to identify areas for growth, understand their role, and develop both their skills and appreciation for the game.

Jason Zajac
Coach Jason brings three years of coaching experience as an assistant coach and holds USA Hockey Level 3 credentials. A lifelong hockey player, he grew up playing youth hockey in Michigan before competing at a high level in the OJHL with Leamington, Ontario.
His coaching is built around effort, accountability, and strong defensive habits. Coach Jason expects players to bring consistent intensity to every shift and drill, with an emphasis on responsible play in the defensive zone and the belief that strong defense creates offensive opportunities.
